Chargé d’Affaires a.i./ Minister Mr. Thein Min Htun Delivers Opening Remarks at ASEAN Day Reception

The ASEAN Pretoria Committee hosted a reception to commemorate the 58th ASEAN Day and the 2nd Anniversary of the Establishment of the ASEAN–South Africa Sectoral Dialogue Partnership on 7 August 2025, from 16:00 to 18:30, at the Residence of the Ambassador of Indonesia in Pretoria.

The event was graced by Ambassador Ms. Zodwa Lallie, Acting Deputy Director-General of the Asia and Middle East Branch, Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), who attended as the Guest of Honour on behalf of the Government of South Africa.

Over 280 guests, including members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, academia, business representatives, and media, participated in the reception.
As Chair of the ASEAN Pretoria Committee, Mr. Thein Min Htun, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, delivered the opening remarks. In his address, Mr. Thein Min Htun highlighted ASEAN’s history, its achievements, and its growing regional and global relevance. He also emphasized the importance, potential, and progress of the ASEAN–South Africa Sectoral Dialogue Partnership, reaffirming ASEAN’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with South Africa under the spirit of friendship and mutual benefit.
